Is this working?
So a little background about myself:
This is my third attempt at a Web blog (if you don’t count my horrid attempts at a LiveJournal).
Blog No. 1 was a site called Built like Delaware, which I loved. Sometime in the course of my blogging, it was “squatted” by some Japanese person/robot.
A few months later, I created Pardon My Zinger. I didn’t think it was my best work, but it wasn’t high on my list on priorities. After some time, I lost access to the site. It still says I am the author, yet when I log into Blogger, nothing shows up. I emailed Google Tech support, asking them to either shut down PMZ or let me use it again, but they have not responded. I’ve been a Google fan for some time but, aside from the aesthetics of Blogger, I was unimpressed with their control of the site.
So here I am now, no longer a college student. Frankly, the real world is scary. This Web blog is basically going to be an augmentation of my prior online journals. Consider it a mature, graduated version of the others.
Since I last posted in March, I graduated, spent a summer of watching cartoons all day and drinking all night. (Well, not actually, bars cost money. Money I don’t have.) In August, I began working my first job whose description didn’t include performing odd jobs like painting street curbs, cleaning parkades* of feces or building playgrounds for the City of Wilkes-Barre. I’m working in the P.R. field, of sorts, for a small college in Baltimore, Md. until May, or hopefully sooner. It’s not as great as I had envisioned for the following reasons:
- I get paid very little. It’s a part-time, entry-level job with full-time hours.
- No health insurance.
- I realized I don’t know anyone in Maryland.
- I work at a ultra-liberal college full of beatniks, unsocial freaks and hipster doofuses.
- I was promised it was a writing position when I applied and interviewed, yet I haven’t written a thing. Basically, it’s currently preventing me from obtaining a better job in the field because I’m getting very little real experience.
- The human resources department likes to forget I exist and not pay me sometimes.
This leaves me looking for a new job, but the job market and my crappy journalism major is keeping me here at G—–. Plus, it gives me plenty of free time to blog and peruse the Interweb. I’m going to give WordPress a try here. I wish I could do more with WordPress. The one thing about Google’s Blogger that I did enjoy was that I could tinker with the HTML and formatting. I haven’t really figured out if I could pull that off here.
See you in the blogosphere,
Mayor McCool
* – Does anyone else call parking garages parkades? I was made fun of for calling it a parkade this weekend and was wondering if anyone else not from Canada refers to it as them. Maybe it’s a NEPA thing.
